Has anyone used one of these.

I wonder if they would do the job ?

I've been using one of these, also from www.5stardistilling.com.au. Bought two cause they were so cheap but the first one is still going strong.

10000 W is more than enough for 2400 W element, but better to be safe than sorry, especially if the quality may not be the best.

Ned,
I ordered one and it arrived last week; wired it up last night and will be giving it a try out tomorrow night...

I have something similar and was not happy with how well the AU plug fits into the multi-plug socket. Another post on this forum recommended to use a UK to AU adaptor for these types of socket and that is an excellent suggestion. Much better contact.

Snug as a bug for me, no issues..... used it 2 nights ago. 50% dribble; 100% flow. All good.

I have 2 like this - https://www.ebay.com.au/i/264004437108?chn=ps
Bought 2 just in case I wrecked one. Works just beautifully.
Amazing what's available in electronics these days, and so cheap :)

[Hi All .
Just bought a 5 Star ,4000 watt 10 amp and 2400Wheating element to hook into my SS beer keg for boiler .
Any one out there who can give me any ideas as to hooking it all up? I was advised to get a Sparky to do the wiring .
Any pictures will be great . Any advise also .
Im new to this game as I went from my Kentucky Pot dinosaur (see pictures) to a Nixon stone reflux (see picture).
Cheers .
Antony

You will need a 1 inch stainless nipple cut in half and welded reasonably low to screw it into, then get it wired by someone licenced. not hard or difficult but good when done right.

Hi Chip
Thanks for the reply
Got the nipple .getting it welded this week end . Hard part is the Sparky to wire it. spoken to a coupla and both said it was ''beyond'' their capability ??
Cant be that difficult but I guess their house wire'ers.I will keep trying.
Onwards

I think they are pulling your leg. They should be able to wire an element. I posted the job on hipages. Got a response within mins. Sparky was out the next day and done with 30 mins.

Fyi, I posted "need 2 heating elements (home brew set up) wired to a lead & plug".

The controller from Andrew is plug and play.

Hi Antony,

Buy some 1.5mm2 3 core flexible cable, a Clipsal 3 pin plug top. Follow instructions on the underside of the cardboard. I suggest soldering the connection or using one of these from Jaycar https://www.jaycar.com.au/3-wire-porcelain-terminal-block-30-amp/p/HM3185. If you go the solder option make sure you put a small sleeve of heat shrink on each wire BEFORE soldering together :angry-banghead:

Put a lug straight on the earth cable, don't fit it off into the porcelain block, make sure your earth wire is longer that the combined length of the brown/blue in flexible cable and the element tails. This way if it happens to get pulled out of the gland the earth wire is the last wire to be broken

Cheers

Did I read correctly that you are running 4000W on a 10 amp plug? That is downright dangerous and you will melt your plug and most likely fuse your power board if you don't have a safety switch. 2400W is the maximum you can and should run on a 10 amp circuit. Danger Will Robinson...

Settle petal,
He’s running a, or will be running a 2400w element through one of FSD’s 10amp power controllers that have a 15amp cut out etc etc I won’t go into what these controllers can or can’t handle but we all know they are rated to 10amp

He wrote a 4000W and a 2400W. what's it going to be? Yes, 2400W is ok on a 10A circuit. 4000W not ok!
