P=VI

so 12=240*I
I = 0.05 Amps

I cant imagine a computer fan pulling "1 amp" but if your fan is 5watts you should be fine

Cheers mate. I ordered the part anyway. for $4 delivered not much of a risk cost wise if it doesnt work. Hopefully it works out.

amps dc is different to amps ac so this equation is incorrect for the dc 1A
other than that it will drive a 12v dc computer fan no problems but if i were you id just buy a 12v powerpack ( phone charger ect) from ebay and use it get some spade crimps to push over the pins and split the other end and solder it to the leads on the fan

The reason behind me thinking about using this transformer was so that I could contain everything within one box (PC Power supply). If it all works then I dont need to plug in a 12v power pack.
For $4 del not a big gamble

it should work but you have to remember cheap electronic transformers fail for no reason with no notice that's why a power pack is more reliable

Poompy, what 8-ball meant about the phone charger/power pack, is that you wire it up internally within the box and use the transformer for that purpose of stepping down...so not actually running it externally and plugging it in for the fan. If you know what you're doing, wire it in parallel, and as 8-ball mentioned, use spade terminals to connect to the power pack 'prongs'. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Mac (or others),

Have you ever experienced a problem with the SSR-40VA going through full range? (0A - 10/15A)

They are quite cheap (pricewise), and seeing as they are a zero-crossing solid state relay, I just wanted to see what your experiences have been so far...looking to throw a couple in a new controller module.

Thanks :handgestures-thumbupleft:

The only time I couldn't get the full range was because I wired the pot wrong, sorry I can't help answer your question properly :sad:

They are reasonably linear for what we need, if you want I can post a quick vid of the voltmeter going through full range?

That would be great if you could anyway Punchy, but I believe everyone :D

Have just heard that a zero-crossing device can have trouble winding right down past a certain point, but if no ones had a problem then it's prob all bullshit.

The beauty of zero-crossing working, is that a snubber cct isn't needed due to not having the high freq switching noise :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Cheers guys

This list/links were mighty useful. Just brought all the stuff for my controllers, the only thing I did was buy the heatsinks from the same ebay store!

Thankyou!
