If for some reason my future element cord does not have an earth. Would I just be able to cut the plug off, get some 2mm wire and put in a 3 prong plug instead, run the earth from the outlet to the box, but not from the box to the element? (As I wouldn't know where to connect it to the element).

Mate I'm not sure, and seeing I'm not a qualified sparky I'm not comfortable giving advise on electrical tech stuff.

I have built a Panda controller before and know it works, but I'll still be getting a sparky to test this one before I use it :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Karrotbear,

Your element will be earthed when you attach an earth wire to the element's mounting bolt. Make sure you have a earth wire on BOTH one of the mounting bolts and a earth wire bolted to the keg/pot/boiler and bring all the earth wires to a earth into the control box earth. You can NEVER have too many earths when dealing with this amount of current. One zap from one hand to the other hand ACROSS the chest and that will be your last still run this lifetime. :crying-blue:

Hi McStill

This is all new to me but I gather this is to control the actual amount of power (watts) to each element allowing better temp control or do you need a different controller to do this? (is this what the pot is for?)

I think some of the guys here have put in a 12v PC fan connected to a mobile phone charger to help with the cooling. ;-)

I saw on one of the forums ppl using 240volt axial fans. They look like computer fans but dont need a phone charger

I have been looking at one of these for powering a pc fan
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1A-12W-LED-D ... 5448wt_906

I have access to quite a few OLD pc power supplies which come with a fan already. was thinking that i could power the fan straight from this transformer.
Any good?

Im going to say "should" do... though i dont know how its rated to 1 Amp when power is calcualted in watts

P=VI

so 12=240*I
I = 0.05 Amps

I cant imagine a computer fan pulling "1 amp" but if your fan is 5watts you should be fine
