The units arnt designed for a chopped wave but work great wired in as designed

thats some good info meat. Some I will take under my wing as I have my screen wired on the outside of the control currently.

The digital volt/ amp meters only fail when given a chopped wave.. Eg if you run them after the controller.
If you run it before it will give you the available volts ( will vary daily) and the amp you are drawing. ( varies with controller)
Volt * amps = watts. so ypu still know whats going on.

Great info meat il remember that one for when i replace them.
One question though they have a range of from memory 80 to 240v. I thought as long as i stayed above the min voltage i would be okay.
When you say choped wave does the psr modify the wave so that it screws the component? At below normal wall outlet voltage.
Again thanks for your input otherwise i would have just fried more components.

I maaged to desolder and replace the 2 resistors on both screans and re wired them. Cost me 60c

A phone charger is a cheap easy way of sourcing a dc power source for cooling fans etc.

I'll write up a list when i get time. But from memory 40amp ssr 1watt.
1watt pots. Haha and yes an old phone charger. I had 2 pc fans already. Im pretty sure 12v fans are much cheaper than 240v ones

I just bought a 240v fan 120mm for about $25 from ebay comes with a power cord plugs straight into wall :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Ebay item 281717245422 item has ended so not sure if you can see it. For sure will be cutting plug off and wiring into the circuit internally. Atm trying to track down a box to put it all in. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I like the idea of using an old ammo box, surely it will all fit into a 100rnd 5.56 linked box.
or even the 7.62 linked boxes.

I'm thinking of future proofing my boiler. What i want to do is have my second 2400w element to serve two functions
1 so i can run 2 elements for heat up time and stripping.
2 so i can control a mash temp by recirculating hot water at a consistent temp.
My thoughts is with a pid temp controller running a ssr would be tho go :think:
Obviously i will have to dial up the temp when using it to strip so it doesn't cut in and out. Then drop it back to a preset temp for heat up time only.
This way i can have one controller that can serve as several functions.
This is only at the planning stage. Am i on the right track?

PIDs are great and can be used for many functions. although I have found that they are better for control items rather than heating elements.
EG. For mashing. element is on ( uncontrolled) in a HERMS, the PID controls mash flow and hence mash temp via solenoid/proportional valve, variable speed pump etc.

It is fairly easy to wire an element though the PID with an element only bypass allowing you to have PID controlled element, or element on full functions, if your after a single vessel mash controller and secondary element that may be the go ( depending on the PID you should also have full power control too. probably PWM)

Hey rum another dumb question :oops:
that trip switch i linked to couple posts up can they be wired direct or do I have to buy a "caddy" that it slots into that can be wired. It has a din rail profile so thinking i dont need anything else besides a rail to mount to. Just making sure i have everything before i get it all wired up btw im not the one putting it together..
