Easy to build your own mate, there's more plans than you can poke a stick at and items are cheap off eBay ;-)

Nope no ready made controllers.
There are 3 paths you can choose
1 build it yourself and get it checked.
2 pay for some one to build it and get it checked
3 get a mate sparky to assemble it.
I personally have built two types
1 scr. Which failed not all do aparently.
2 punchys control is what i made and hasn't failed yet and dont expect.to

Neither, the pot failed to 100% on.
As for what you are asking there's plenty of info here how to make and wire a controller. If at all it doesn't make sense or you can't follow it I definitely recomend a lekky to do it. Not wanting to sound blunt, but its electricity you dont get second chances.

The 4000w scrs are best bypassed for heat up as they dont like continued opetation at 100% ( although all controllers should be as they all suffer loses and at best deliver around 95% of the elements capability)
If you dont know how to earth one....... dont wire it, seek professional assistance.

Would something like this work if I get a sparky to replace the plug with a proper ten amp plug and find where half way is on my element

I am not qualified and only have experience with my electrician made controller ,so the one pictured is cheap, buy it try it and see how it goes, but you are talking about something that is pulling back a 2400/3600 watt element the way they work in lay and terms is they draw the power out and disperse it within the cooling fins attached ( in other words they make a lot of heat and this is a problem they can melt and stuff up big time) mind has a fan fitted to keep it cool!
