Bloody T500 boiler

3/4 of the way through my spirit run on 20 litres of TPW low wines and the damned boiler decides to go into thermal overload. I don't think it liked being run for 6 and a half hours on a 27 degree day. I reset the thermal switch a few times (with great difficulty mind you nas it is underneath the boiler) but every time it reached a point that I could start collecting again it shut off. At least I've collected 6 litres of azeo from it but it would have been nice to grab the remaining couple of litres (give or take).

Might have to invest in a new small(ish) boiler. The 100l milk can is too big for these sorts of runs.

I use my T500 boiler all summer and it is 40+ degrees never had an issue and I bought it second hand from a mate that used heaps.

There might be an issue with the element?

I suspect it was more to do with the fact that it had been running for 6 1/2 hours. It's been fine on smaller runs. This is the first medium sized run I've done with it.

It should still handel the run, measure the resistance of the plug disconected and let me know ill measure mine and compare when i get home. As long as you have a 2000w boiler :think:

Element resistance is 28 Ohms.

Having another go today with the remaining charge just to see what happens.

Second attempt no good either. Ran for half an hour and the thermal overload in the boiler tripped again. Now I can't even get the bloody thing to start again. I wonder if the thermal overload switch is faulty.

When measuring resistance do i measure between live and neutral? If so my reading on a 2000w boiler is 26.22 fyi

29.1ohm did you also measure between all pins to see if you have earth leackage :-B

Thanks rummy, looks like the element is OK then. No connection between earth and neutral or earth and active. I suspect the thermal cut-off switch itself maybe overly sensitive.

Sounds like it is. I haven't looked to see if you can pull the bottom off :think: have a good visual if you do pull it off. Try and get the same rated thermal cut out as whats in it.

Thanks mate. The base has a screw on panel underneath it that I assume gives access to the cut-off and the element.

Not a bad idea. T500 electrical gut shots coming soon.

I expect it would be easy wire around the thermal cut-off switch jacobraven but I am loathe to bypass ANY safety feature of anything. That being said, I don't have any thermal protection on the FSD boiler so I guess it's not such a problem for the T500.

Hey mate,

What do you sit your boiler on while running? Just wondering if you could allow more air flow under the boiler base by sitting it on a couple of bricks. This might prevent the thermal cutout from activating :think:
