Can I turn my t500 into a pot still?

Postby dillsandwitch » Mon Aug 04, 2014 7:54 pm

Howdy all,

After having the T500 for almost 2 years I have finally had enough of all the constant water tweaking and bitchiness that it has. I upgraded to the home spirit maker still from my local brew shop. Already only after 1 run I am loving it. Yay :D

Is there any way for me to turn my T500 condenser into a pot still or is there no point and I should just shove it back into its box and try to sell it on ebay or something?

Thanks In Advance
Dill

You cant really use the original T500 head as a pot if that's what you mean. You could build or get built a pot still head to fit the boiler if you wanted. As 12 many has pointed out Mac has an adapter available that will make the job easy if you wish to go that way. If you do decide to run a pot head on the original boiler I think your also going to need some sort of voltage controller for spirit runs.
If you don't want to bother with a controller you could still make a small pot head to suit the boiler and then use that to make Gin or Ouzo from the neutral you have.

knowing what I know now when I brought mine like 4 or so years ago for a low low sum of $1000 dammmm I certainly could had something better and versatile. Do tend to kick myself at times that I didn't stumble onto this site snd done my research first but needent to worry I still enjoy using it learning etc

if u need cash for making the pot sel the t500. If not just chuck it in a cupboard. Never know u may wana fire her up again...

or hand it down to a family member or mate lol

Short answer is NO you can't, it have synthetic parts and will not handle the temps involved. may be sell it and get a keg and pot still with the cash :handgestures-thumbupleft:

As already said No. The plastic parts are prone to damage with higher temps (leaking issues) This is pretty well documented on a few forums. I too started with a t500 and still use it on occasion, even if you build/ buy a bubbler it has its place. I use mine for feints,TPW or rerunning failed experiments. Saves me reconfiguring the bubbler.
