Ryans 2" Pot still

Postby Ryan » Mon Oct 13, 2014 10:04 pm

After approx 2 years of being un-organised and well.. just lazy, ive finally managed to make a pot still.

I was going to originally make a bokakob and then it all screamed to a halt.. i started looking into it all again, and am really
liking the looks of the bubblers, this left me with the materials i bought for the boka so i decided to take what i had, and make it into a pot still.
I headed to Galvins this arvo and managed to get some 2" 90' bends, and the reducers to go from 2" to the 1/2" leibig.
The rest i got from the local bunnings!

Im more of a rum/bourbon drinker so my first batch will probably be something along those lines!
Now ive just gotta finish off the boiler before the fun begins!!

Looking good mate. Get a couple of washes (a rum and a whiskey) on now so you're ready to roll when you get your boiler finished :handgestures-thumbupleft:

A pot is a great way to start, you'll learn a lot :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Good to see you have got back into it, the pot will produce some decent drinks while you build your bubbler :handgestures-thumbupleft:

To be honest, i've never been a "off the plan" kind of person.
ive just measured it, and its 680mm from the ferrule from the boiler, to the first shoulder on the bend at the top.
There is no packing in the column... im not sure if there should be?

Hope this helps! :) im fairly new to all of this too, all i can recommend is keep reading the forums and see what you like!..

The leibig is about 880 long and the condenser 680, 3/4" outer and 1/2" inner, personally id go to a 1" outer if I was going to do it again. Just to aid with cooling

I ran a sacrificial tpw through it last night down to 20% got about 7l of low wines

I put my down a CFW into the fermenter last night for my first whisky run! can't wait!

That sacrificial run shouldn't be kept as low wines and shpuld be discarded. It is used to strip remaing crap outta the still and you wouldn't want to be drinking that!
