Still build

Pot still design and discussion

Re: Still build

Oh and just so you understand what Im getting at here.
The pink stuff required the most neutral of neutrals, something that they couldnt do with the pot stills on display in the building.

Wow, that's a really deep pink colour Stig. Mine turned out really pale like the bottle next to it but I used Coles' musk sticks. Tasted fantastic. A definite hit with the ladies.

Cheers,
Prof. Green.

Sickly sweet that stuff but not too bad if you don't put too many sticks in it. Go for the primo ones. For a little bit of trivia, funnily enough it makes the beer pink on the way back up. Dont ask me how I know that. :angelic-sunshine:
Btw, most lollies can be made into liquors like that.

When I was a teenager, a favourite in my group of friends was vodka with redskins dissolved in it. Another was sour gummi bears

Hey Copperhead, has your still builder got a website? What reason was there to get the whole thing made in USA? Surely there are competent metalworkers in Oz capable of making a simple boiler.

I think they have done a great job of rolling and manipulating 3mm plus sheeting without leaving any creases as well.

Hi guys,
Thought I would post updated pic of her slowly coming together, we also decided last night she will be rolling a gatlon gun condenser with a 3" outer water jacket.

That ferrule at the top for what i assume will be the condenser looks alot like brass.
The message we promote here is brass is bad as it contains lead and you don't want that in your product.
Your call tho.

I will have to contact builder Monday, would have thought there was another explanation for that colour as he is very anti lead and I would assume a still builder would know if brass contained lead.
Is brass a common thing you see on a still sometimes?

If by chance that ferrule was brass how bad would that be?

Wonder if stainless could get that yellowish tinge with extreme heat connecting it to copper tube?

Hoping some of the experienced fellas that build there own rigs will know....

It does look like brass. You could blame a yellow/green colour cast in the photo except that the colour on large ferrule that is sitting on the boiler looks correct. I would have thought high heat would have turned the ferrule blue not yellow.

I have seen copper stills on the market with brass fittings on them so definitely contact the manufacturer and get clarification on it to be safe.

Cheers,
Prof. Green.

The ferrule sitting on the CAN for cleaning port has not been attached yet, it's just sitting there.

I did notice that but what I meant was that it gives an indication that the colour in the photo is true and therefore the top ferrule is actually a brass colour.

I see what you mean know, notice there is a reflection the same colour on the onion head wall like it's from a shiny brass fitting.
