4 inch modular pot build

Postby orcy » Tue Sep 12, 2017 11:05 am

Well, its not modular yet, but it will be when i collect all the parts for the bubbler section. All up it will cost about the same as a 5 star mod pot, but ill get a free ts8000 torch out of it.

Ita slowly cooling down in my shed atm, and will be leak tested before a polish and first cleaning runs.

Second go over of the two 4 inch joins into the 90 and it seems to hold water now. All mounted up and charged with vinegar for a cleaning/leak testing run. Assuming it passes the test, i will charge it with a bunch of tails as a sac run, then straight into stripping 200L of a gen3 wbab made with raw sugar. Hoping for a nice grainy vodka or light rum out of it.

Nice looking unit :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Would a 4 in ferrule make any difference to operation and output? We were thinking about a 4 in bubbler for our next build and curious if it is worth welding in the bigger hole.

If i could find someone to tig weld a 4inch ferrule on id do it in a heartbeat. I dont believe it makes much difference to spirit quality, but the bigger hole would be fantastic.

Look local Orcy. Pretty sure you'll find a fabricator/welder around Hartnet drive or Austin road :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Still looks great mate

Sac run today. Installed some camlock fittings for the cooler lines Holy shit this thing is a beast. Charged with around 40l of 30 percent that i could rustle. 47mins to firdt drop. First 5 litre demi was full of 70 percent by an 1:20. So 33 minutes for 5 litres. Between 9 and 9.5 litres an hour in stripping mode. I could run it a touch harder (second element is about 80%) but id need a bigger pump for the pc.

200l third gen wbab run this week. 4 stripping runs of about 40L each gave me about 8 litres of 30 percent in 2 hours (includes heatup). Spirit run today on 32L of 30 percent low wines. 60 250ml jars collected. Ran at 80% ABV for the first 35 jars at around 3 litres per hour. Only dropped to 72 percent by jar 50. Started to run out of time so bashed out the last 10 jars. Still only got down to 48 percent before i had to shut it down and return to the real world. Distillers privelege was pretty damn nice, so hopefully i can pull 6 or 7 litres of good cuts out of the middle at 77 or 78 percent.

Overall very happy with the build. Rum next.

i'v been looking around for a keg for my build and for the effort of building a 50 litre keg from scratch you can buy a 58 litre unit from kegland with a 4-inch ferrule for 220 bucks
