Gas vrs electric ??

Postby Wraith71 » Sat Jan 06, 2018 8:18 am

Ok Ive been running this for awhile on gas .. yes its easy to control and heats up reasonably quickly BUT it does heat up out here where I live and since I made this portable seriously thinking of converting to electricity and moving where the air con goes. Big question is how much power do I need to throw into this to heat up 110 ltrs with out it taking all day?
I figured on twin 2400w .. ? Anyone with a 100 ltr boiler running on elec with a bit of advice would be greatly appreciated .

Try this

Do you insulate your boiler? It'll make a massive difference.

Why the condenser on your boiler?

equipment: Eve - 4" x 4 plate solid state bubbler (sieve plates), 330 mm packed section on a keg boiler with 2 x 2000 W elements.
Currently having a makeover: 2" x 4 plate solid state bubbler (1" bubble caps, no sight glasses...maybe not for much longer!) on a bain-marie boiler.

Have you got a 15amp circuit if so I’d recommend a 3600w and a 2400w.

Like your boiler :handgestures-thumbupleft: 3600w boils 40_45l in about 50mins on uninsulated keg boiler. if thats any help. I am with uj 3600w and a 2400w would be way to go but you would need to install a 15a circuit.

50l keg boiler 4" still mount 4" sight glass 1" drain..
4 plate 4" bubbler, 600mm packed section

Is that a pot still, half inch into a worm condenser? Personally would not go that small just in case of puke. 1/2 inch will block easily compared to 2"..

Actually I can remove the copper coil in about 90sec .. undo the top securing nut and unscrew the bottom clamp and lift out... and so far I havent really thought about insulation as its powered by gas.

Thanks , it was a bit of right lets just build it and see what happens ( I think considering why and how it was built .. perfect) .. And yea I did give that a thought , I can run off two circuits in the house both 15amp .. then I will insulate the boiler.. And yes EVERY weld, nut , bolt, valve is full 316 stainless with about 9mtrs of copper old school style.

I use 2 x 2400 watts for my 100 litre milk can and it takes 1 1/2 to 2 hours until the fores start to come through depending on the starting temeperature and whether or not I’ve bothered to wrap a blanket around the boiler to insulate it.

Cheers,

Thanks Prof,
I'm not hugely worried about heat up time , as long as its not 3hrs b4 the fores start .. If i did a electric convert then id definatly throw a insulation wrap around it. Ive been a bit spoilt with gas it heats up in about 50mins and 1 touch of the finger to control. I do have a electric cotroller or two floating around so may end up with a bit of a shopping list.
Cheers for the advice ..
