My T500 (copper version) is sealed at the top.
I recently removed all the stainless and copper saddles for a soak in a citric acid wash, and later I turned the column upside down and filled it up to clean the cooling coils. I left it overnight and nothing leaked out the plastic cap.
Mine has a copper pipe joining the main reflux tube to the condenser, under the plastic cap. Also, when I switch off the boiler and it cools, I can stick the end of the alcohol take-off pipe in a jug of water and it sucks it back up the pipe. Couldn't do this if the column was vented.
Maybe it's only the stainless versions that aren't sealed?
Either way, as long as the liquid alcohol tube isn't blocked, there should be no pressure in the boiler.

Greg.
