Hi All,

Just wanted to post a pic of my new FSD 4" Pot. Clean as a whistle and ran like a breeze on her maiden run.

Thank you for all the help and advice Andrew, 5 star service  . The brass fittings for the cooling line and the sealant you gave me worked an absolute treat!

Zero leaks and best of all no thread tape required :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Nice rig mate. Best thing is she's modular so you can build a bubbler from here

Stripped some cfw on first run and was super impressed. Starting ABV %75 and ran boiler upto 99c and it was still knocking down vapor, distillate was still cool...just awesome gear.

Thanks mate. The bottle closest to the new rig is gen 5 UJ on 3rd use bourbon cubes. The UJ is actually 6 months old already (I left it white). The bottle at the back is a 100% Malt Whisky, on med toast AO, 4 months old. I was checking the oakiness whilst taking in all the shiny new gear :obscene-drinkingchug:

Where did you get your mash tun from... i assume thats what the red water tub is? It looks like what i need, especially with the temp guage in the side. :handgestures-thumbupleft:

It is a cooler mash tun indeed. Works a treat. It was a pressie from the mrs....which she now regrets given the amount of time I spend working on my hobby :obscene-drinkingdrunk:

Yeah but if you have the right gear, you can do it more efficiently which should make it quicker which means more time with the Mrs.... if only they would believe it! :laughing-rolling:

Quick update...
Just completed my first spirit run with my new FSD 4inch pot.
Approx 32L @ 40%.
Ran one element at half power through fores and heads down to 80abv then upped power to around 65% through hearts/tails down to 60abv then one element at full noise down to 30abv.
I have kept from 80abv down 70abv. Once proofed down i ended up with just over 8L at 65% ready for aging.
The spirit produced is superior to that of my home made job in every way. Big thanks to Andrew/Stig. Awesome gear.

Very nice Georgio - a friend of mine has the same setup.
I've been wondering if a 4" 500mm packed section would act as a thumper on this this?
Maybe even a 1 or 2 plate unit?
Cheers

I have noticed my ABV starts higher and holds much more steady than my old non packed 2" copper pot. I have packed the two inch piping at the top of the still with copper mesh that 5Star supplied. Starting ABV of 85%. The ABV held super steady between 85% - 70%. Largest hearts cut I have had to date. True hearts was definitely 80%-72% but I kept power up through hearts to try to intentionally smear some early tails up into the cut (bit of an experiment, have been doing heaps of heavilly peated AG). Ended up keeping 80%-70% ABV. I have noticed this early tails has the peaty/Iodine flavour I love but when I run slower and get more definition in the hearts/tails boundary the hearts are great and tails are just too strong to blend in, given that I want to drink this stuff between 6-12 months.

I am definitely considering adding in some plates atm......

Thanks Bluc, I learnt heaps reading your AG thread. Trying out a new a new brand of heavilly peated malt. CRISP malt, just arrived in the country, I was lucky enough to get my mits on 30kgs. Going to run this with the addition of some malted Rye at 10% in the next few weeks, so will keep you let you know how she runs :-B
