Pelican pot for the T500

hi all, just wondering if I need a temp gauge on my pot still that I'm just about to start making? or do your just run it via the output flow, eg lower/increase voltage or increase/lower water to desired output rate? It will be a 2" copper pelican style pot, with a shotgun condenser. I've never use / ran a pot before, only I reflux and I'm very keen to try this BWKO recipe, or a UJSSM as I'm a JD drinker normally.

Thanks Dom

Run it by output. Grab a voltage controller :handgestures-thumbupleft:

A thermometer is very handy but you can live without it. Everything before 78.2C is fores for sure. As you approach that temperature you can set your power controller first to remove fores slowly and then to the spot where you will collect the bulk of your run. When the temperature climbs you know the alcohol level is lower in the boiler and are going into tails. There is a relationship between the vapour temperature and %abv. If you collect tails for feints then 96C is about 30% abv. I would use one just to have further info on what is happening.

I've been running a pot still for years, never had a temperature gauge, never saw the point really its just unnecessary bling. I run my still by out put speed, strip run is flat out but spirit run I slow the out put flow down to a pencil led thickness of product coming out of the condenser and make my cuts from there.

Yes wind the voltage back till you get Drips the nudge it back till just solid stream...
