Mate I might take you up on that. Tried to solder copper to the ss ferrules today and it was a disaster. I can't imagine trying to solder my 4inch port to the keg will be any easier. Bastard of a job.

So I got the mongrel built.
She's not pretty but she don't leak.

Silver soldering ss to copper is a skill I must continue to master.

No pics at the moment but I'll get some soon.

Vinegar run is done ran for about 2 hours with 50/50 vinegar water. Then I washed all the parts with soap and water.

I'm about to do a sacrificial run with some peaches that I think might have been a little too far gone as the wash tastes a bit off. Gravity is still about 1000 so some booze (or more vinegar) will come out.

If it's not clean after that I have about 5/6 litres of average booze from old turbos I've stashed in the shed I'll throw that in and top up with water.

Is it normal for a copper still when it's not clean to have a copper taste to everything? No I'm not licking the column but I DD stick my finger in the water I was flushing the still with and got a destinct copper/metallic taste. This was flushing after the vinegar run.

After use you will get a patina layer, it will stop this metallic taste :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Cheers mate.
I couldn't work out if I was covered in copper taint from scrubbing everything in citric acid or I'd got the wrong copper or something.

Pretty excited to put my first legit run through it.

:handgestures-thumbupleft: nah copper will always patina and go brown. If you polish and clear coat it will slow the proccess but not stop it..

Good job monk :handgestures-thumbupleft: glad to hear she's a goer.

Yep ss to copper is a bit tricky. I found not heating the ss directly was the key, heat the copper and that will heat the ss. I also found I had to reapply flux during the soldering as it burns off. If the flux turns black, dab some more flux on.
