Isolation Pot Still Build

Postby Offline » Fri Apr 24, 2020 10:54 pm

Hi all.

This is another "I'm stuck in isolation build thread, but a pot still this time".

I've been using a mates 2" pot still (approx 750 mm) with 700 mm liebig condenser and a 50 L keg boiler.

Before he asks for it back I've decided to start building my own, though I've had it for over 12 months now.

The plan is for a modular 2" approx 750 mm column with a 2" 750 mm long shotgun PC, using the same boiler, for now.

2" PC end plates/baffles with 6x 1/2" tubes

It took me 1 and a half days to seal the condenser. every time i fixed one leak it would create another, in the end i cut off about an inch and started again on one end. Much frustration involved.

However now that it is sealed, compared to the old liebig, it works heaps better.
It uses heaps less water an the product is cooler too.

i still need to build a collector for the shotgun.

Cheers
Off'y

Had the same problem myself a year back. Because i had been using it before it sprung a leak, internally the condenser wasnt real clean anymore and i just couldnt get the join clean enough for it to solder. The only fix was to cut the end off and start again.
