Tri clamp seal

Hey all, i've brought all the stuff i need to build a potstill and was wondering about the 2" seal that come with the tri clamp. Doesnt seem to fit very neatly on the keg, was thinking of slicing off the ridge on one side and having it flat against the keg opening?. Any advice great thanks.
