Pot still design and discussion

The Vortex

Postby googe » Sat Oct 06, 2012 5:52 pm

Hey all, gave my new pot still a run today, dissapointed with the output  250ml per 2.20 mins, which = arond 9L an hour, correct me if im wrong?. Did a TPW spirit run, was pulling 87% , better than the dude at works reflux ha. I did it in a spiral way to try an create a vortex effect providing faster vapor speed. I also added a spirial in the centre of the colum after the first run and i got around a litre more per hour. I just flattened some pipe and twisted it in the vice and jamed it up the colum. The condensor works unreal, with flames slaping the top of the keg it still wasnt huffing or struggling at all. I think the main prob was input to the condensor from the colum, ive got 2" down to 3/4" and into the condensor, if i had some bigger input into the condensor it would kick ass i reckon. The control with this condensor is great!, very precise, the flow is nothing like a reg liebig, its very very constant, no brocken steaam into drops then a stream then god knows what, it just stays on what i set it on. I need a bigger boiler and bigger water supply!. This will be my fav pot still now, produces very nice tasting stuff at high abv :D. Sorry for the crap pics. Its fuckin ugly :laughing-rolling:
