Just picked this up....

That one isn't mine, but it's identical to this. Keg, copper and parrot all included for $80 from a mate at work (his wife wanted it out the house).

Just need to find a triclamp and a heater now...

Thought it would be funny considering I only just joined up and haven't even used my AirStill to run anything yet...then this falls into my lap.

Comments / Suggestions for upgrades / Thoughts in general / Banter

All welcome, as always.

Great score mate. That will serve you a lot better than your air still. :handgestures-thumbupleft:
You can get weldless heater elements from FSD, all you have to do is drill a 32mm hole and get a sparky to wire a plug onto it.

Thanks Lads,

I'm fairly happy with the haul.

One question....Can you link me to the Weldless FSD elements....I did a quick google and it seems confused.

Cheers,

Go to the fsd banner on the home page ( it will be a pic of a shiney bubler :D ) and then you will be directed to his website. All the details there. Great score by the way :handgestures-thumbupleft: Or you could run gas. I do and works very well

Like smbjk said, the top left pic on the home page takes you to the FSD web store. All your shiny distilling needs in one place.

Here is a link to the elements: http://5stardistilling.wazala.com/widge ... ID%3D23726

Quick question for anyone, but specifically Mac.

Do I need to get an element guard as well? Also what is the power rating of the weldless heater element...I can't seem to see it on the site there.

The elements are 2400w. I am pretty sure Mac's element guards do not fit the weldless ones, but there is no stopping you making your own guard. Idealy you want a guard on your element but in sayipng thst I don't have any on mine however I am very careful with them and I have means and ways to test them if I am unsure.

Sorry to seem like a dunce here lads but I've got my weldless element and drilled my 32mm hole (A whole nother story on getting the right drill bit to do that...). I dropped it into the keg and pulled it through the hole with the wires. Dropped the nut over the wires and tightened it up...filled it with water and it's leaking like a sieve.

Thought to myself, perhaps the rubber washer is meant to be on the outside...so undid it, pulled it out, took the washer off, dropped it back i, pulled it through the hole and put the rubber washer and the nut over the wires...tightened it up again...and still leaking...nowhere near as much but still a dribble but it appears to be between the thread and nut, not near the seal of the keg this time.

What am I doing wrong?

Cheers,

I would say you have left a bur on the inside of your keg, this is usually what happens to create a leak if it's coming through the thread.

If the seal is seated on the inside of your keg properly, there is no way liquid of any kind find find it's way there, I just hope I explained it right 8-}

Ah yeap...excellent...I'll check that...

So to be clear...the seal IS meant to be on the inside...

I'll have to change that again...
