I still get loaded plates when stripping with my bubbler. I break it down to a pot these days as I'm in a bit more of a routine but reflux does take place without a condenser.

How much though is dictated by the column materials, ambient temperature, power input, column diameter & height, as well as packing

I think this conversation is confusing some of the newer guys who should just be concentrating on the basics, Ie 2 runs for a potstill and a slow spirit run. Just my 2c

Not confusing me at all.
I am doing multiple stripping and spirit runs, and running my setup at about 30% power during spirit runs.
Still doesn't mean a packed pot column doesn't reflux, i've watched it with my own eyes! 8-}

All good matt :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Packing the pot wont make much of a difference I wouldn't think, well not to what's coming outta the still anyway the only thing you might notice is a slightly higher abv and maybe a lighter spirit depending on some of the variables... but this would be minimal.

With all the above in consideration you could get some good reflux in a pot... But at that stage why not just build a reflux! 8-}
