Just an update on my 1st mcrum strip,
Every thing went well exept for a couple of water leaks which I thought I had sorted. Bugger. Its not to bad just a pain in the arse, il have to solder, polish, clear and clean all over again. Practise makes perfect apparently.
21ltr wash, I only put 20ltrs into boiler, max level mark and a cap full of cooking oil.
10 cut jars at 500mls, fores collected 200mls
% is not temperature correct, I increased the coolant flow at cut 4ish
Cut 1 74% 8.38min
2 73% 8.49 after
3 70% 8.49
4 65% 9.26
5 60% 10.48
6 55% 10.27
7 50% 11.33
8 38% 12.00 cloudy
9 28% 13.25 cloudy
10 20% cloudy
I knew I read something about cloudy distillate and a quick search and bingo tails entering,
Any sugestions?

There's no real need for cuts on a stripping run rummy, lose the fores then collect down to 20% you will need a power controller for the spirit run to slow things down if your yet to build one. 2 x stripping runs and you will be good for a slow spirit run :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Thanks muppet. Yeah the only reason i collected cut jars was to practise on the smells for spirit run.
I've placed an order on the parts for the controller, I also put down a second generation and have another wash ready to strip.
I just need to get on to some oak off cuts, i found the number for round yard barrels and will give them a go.

Not a bad idea to collect in cut jars on a strip run when you're starting out, the fractions will be smeared but it gives you some idea of what to expect :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Tpw fores and methanol is cleaning the pot. I will keep the mc rum fores seperate, till I have enough for a feints run.
Does that make sense?

It is a mixture of compounds that "may" contain some miniscule amount of methanol, it is not methanol ;-)

It's called foreshots mate, its not methanol ;-) Depending on the wash there may be trace amounts of methanol in it though.

Please clarify what you mean here mate? Have you got the lingo twisted?

Foreshots - discard (start of run ~50-300ml)
Feints - heads and tails after cuts on a spirit run (the stuff you don't add to the ageing vessel)

:angry-banghead: yeah sorry lingo twisted.
What I have been doing is 60mls= poison bottle
200mls=fores
then whatever followed feints untill hearts
I have only done this on tpw but was going to use the same method for mcrum

Sorry if I have confused many people i have that affect on people 8-} .

Your first 200ml is all fores, that should all go in the poison bottle to light the weber/clean the windows. Then you've got heads, then hearts and finally tails :handgestures-thumbupleft:

What is in the heads that you don't want I am sure I read on here there is methanol in the heads and it will give you a whopping headache. I thought the methanol was all in the foreshots and got chucked(or used for BBQ lighter).? Here in this thread viewtopic.php?f=57&t=2859 point two says there is acetone methanol and ethanol in the heads correct?

The heads is made up of methanol, acetone, and a few other chemicals that you don't really want to be drinking.

You will know what's good and what's not when you do a run and smell your cuts jars :handgestures-thumbupleft:

OK thanks so a little of late heads and some early tails is OK? I realize lines are blurred between heads hearts and hearts tails.
