Thumpers......how do I ?

Postby stubbydrainer » Wed Oct 26, 2011 2:11 pm

G'day folks
just sitting here looking at my bench thinkin' " I might build a 2 1/2 pot with a thumper ( not unlike McStills copper porn thumper) coz ...fuck I like the look of that bit of equip. no other reason comes to mind at this stage
but.... Where do you find any info on the things ? there has to be some sort of ratio to the size of the thumper to the size of the boiler , tubing size ratio's etc . As well, I like to read up on the theory and history of development of things , not just 20 mm here , 25 mm there, cut at 45 degree just around the corner, but a rounded picture of the whole concept. distillapedia has nothing on them.
any info welcome
cheers

Hey Stubbs,
I was contemplating the same setup only the other day and I found some info on Home distiller in the equipment section then I clicked Designs and plans then thumpers, it gives a pretty good description on how one works.
(sorry for being too dumb to post the link)

Thanks Jimmy & Andy
I'm a bit of a knuckle head where computers are concerned,I can flounder around the web for hours and still not find anything I wanted to know :? :? I didn't know that that site existed, I thought it was just a forum like this one.(shit,I hope this is all to this site or has it got a totally different section on info too :? :?)
The info about the thumper is great, a long with everything else and I'm going to read everything that there is there :geek: :geek:

Cheers

I am still doing research Mac
I think I might have the design sorted
take a peek if ya wan't
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/717/namnlsxx.jpg/

Its a proto type(I think) seems good to me atm I haven't found much better any where else, found it on artisan somethin or other chatty site,

Not much of a guru when it comes to computers so could only get a piccy of this revolutionary design not link it to artesian chatters place :geek: :geek:

Let me know if Im barking up the wrong tree please Mac, I don't wanna fuck this lil project up

Hi Mac
when I research anything I like to start at the beginning and work my way thru, understanding it all as I go,I reckon that is better than just knowing it, you know....start at the beginning and all that shit :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling:
But I do wanna pick your brain at some point in time about that thumper of yours

Mine was pretty simple in design really, I stole the idea from punkins thumper ideas on AD ;)

thx Mac
a picture say's a thousand words ;) and answers all the curious questions SBB and me had about the "one tube in" design :? :?
another question is about the quantity of wash/stippings in the thumper itself ie: i put 42 ltr in the keg ,so..
how much would I put in the thumper ? size of the thumper should be between 1/3 and 1/4 I have read. so that would make it about 10 litres of wash in the thumper ( to be conservative) so the thumper would have to be about 13-15 ltr ?? How much liquid do you put in your thumper given that its volume is 10 ltr ?

Cheers

Hehehe...still haven't had time or inclination to put that thing together, I have some REALLY cool bits to add now with a bubbleball from ACW and stuff.

I'll get my act into gear one day...maybe when i have three or four months off work next time. :laughing-rolling:

Yours goes chuga chuga rather than fizz or thump, kind sounds like an old washing machine running slow

I was putting about 2 or 3 liters of wash in the thumper, by the end of a run there would be about a liter left in it ;)

I went in to the local copper supply store (plumber) to day to pick-up some more silver solder rods because I ran out on friday arvo ...so I couldn't finish what I was doing over the weekend ( they shut at lunch time friday's)  I knew I was getting low :angry-banghead:
While I was there I asked if there was any offcut pieces of large copper tube out the back ? he said ...yeah, maybe how big of a bit do ya want ? I said errr about 350-400 long of about 8 or 10 " the look on his face was fuken priceless :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling:

So where would you be able to obtain copper of large diameter without having to buy lengths by the meter or longer, I've never looked but I'm thinking that copper that size wouldn't be easy to come across.

Although the look on the ol' mates face was priceless, the largest pipe there was 150mm,and he was only too happy to cut a bit off had I asked, but 150mm is'nt big enough.
Gunna roll up some sheet and do it that way, when I do it,
in the mean time, if I can scrounge up an offcut there suitable to my needs I would use that, as long as it was new I don't have a problem, long lengths of anything like steel, copper, stainless are better off staying long as long as possible I reckon.....we all would have been there .... you know ....when that bit of "stuff" is too fuken short and ya gotta get a new bit to finish what ya doin ! :angry-banghead:
