4" pot still with inline thumper

Postby GMan » Sat Feb 06, 2016 11:11 am

Hi all

So I revised my pot still planes and was wanting to know if my design for the in line thumper would work. My goal is to double distill in one run. Do you guys think this will work. Thanks.

Add an RC and you have a single plate bubbler. Seems to be what your trying to acheive.
Plates work best with reflux.
I suggest you add a down comer to that perf plate.

If truely after an inline thumper with out RC the i suggest a bubble cap, and prime if with liquid first ( wash, heads tails etc)
You will also need a drain/downcomer on 4".

My understanding of a pot still with a thumper was that the thumper was heated by the vapour of the pots still. Also the liquid dose not go back into the boiler.

yeah that is not an in-line thumper

this is what an in-line thumper would be

so the vapour goes up and then through the liquid to be re-vaporised by the heat from the vapour.

For liquid to not go back to the boiler you will need mach larger capacity. Need minimum of 1/3 (suggest 1/2) of the boilers capacity. If less capacity you will require a drain/downcomer to prevent flooding
