Another question, with fores do I take them out on a stripping run or just take out a lot more on the spirit run?
Cheers

Right.. :handgestures-thumbupleft: when you think about it you would need more time/heat on the plate as it would take that bit longer...then the smaller inners should be a lot quicker....cheers.

:text-+1: with the fores...I throw 100ml every run...not worth the bother.

It won't hurt to throw a jar of fores out from a strip run mate, it's only fores and early heads you're tossing anyway!

Ordered the last few things from five star and I'll be good to go ;)

Both 190l fermenting drums are soaking in napisan at the moment, trying to rid them of olive smell

See how the nappy San goes. If it's still not scent free try baking soda I've had good results in the past

Good thing I got another thermo and threaded bung to weld on ;) will put one there aswell...

And the 2 inch ferrule you can see is my drain, it's actually only a few mm up from the base and the base is flat so should be good

Will be running on gass for a bit as I have a couple 3 ring burners, can add elements later

Use old olive drums myself, after cleaning there was still a slight smell of the olives ,wich I was worried might carry over to the spirit ,it never happened ,so I think you will be fine.I have not tryed the hook rum,but what I have tryed is Macrum viewtopic.php?f=32&t=30 plus there is a link to the rum discusion thread ta help guide ya thru , and after only a couple of months on oak ,is going down real nice on a chilly night :obscene-drinkingdrunk: .It helps with rum to maintain a fairly warm wash temp of up to 30'-35'c wich can be difficult at this cold time of year ,and some leave rum to the summer months for that reason.cheers hillzabilly :handgestures-thumbupleft:

If your fermenters are 180lt I would not put more than 120lt rum wash in them ,as rum wash can foam up a fair bit at the start of fermentation, and plenty of head space is a good idear ,unless ya like cleaning the ceiling and walls and floor after it sprays out of the air lock,or overflows. As with the boiler of 100lt you may find that putting more than 60lt rum wash will risk it pewking .Doing 4 generations of 120lt (doubling the 60lt reciepe should be fine) will mean you end up doing 8 stripping runs ,then 1-2 spirit runs ,wich will give ya a about 40- 50lt @65% ready for oakings, plus several liters of feints for the next batch ,wich will increase your hearts cut on the second batch.cheers hillzabilly :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Just after advise :)
My fermenters went crazy for 24 hours now at the 26-27 hour marks its slowed right down to a bubble every second or two,
Is this normal?
Was a 2.5 times hook rum mix, and has 5 teaspoons of dap, ran at a constant 32-33 degrees, now dropped to 31 with an electric blanket around it to try hold 30...
Taste almost with out sugar just a strong bitter liquorish taste and the hole lot looks like a dark brown rather then a black colour

Don't suppose you got a gravity reading?

It's pretty standard for rums to go boonta for 24-48 hours, especially if you're throwing heat at it. Give it another couple of days to settle out a bit and see how it runs!
