acid bath for my reflux still low abv since

Postby benpandaae86 » Thu Dec 25, 2014 8:54 pm

I soaked my lil reflux still with extension tower in citric acid to make it all nice and shiney inside i was gettin greeny/blue floaty bits (copper sulphides i think).

I had it soak for 2 days same with all the copper and ceramic saddles out of the extension tower and now it wont pull any better than 75% abv its quite frustaiting nothing has changed other than a good clean any ideas to why i cant pull 95-96% any more this was the 2nd run since the clean out and i dont no whats goin wrong

Are you using turbo? Did you take the plastic head off? O ring not seating properly?

I will check it later for leaks ill put water on the p/c and pressurise it and look for water comin out of the main body

Only tpw no turbos
Plastic head/oring???

There was no packing in the column only a marble above the r/c (if thats what u would call it)
i was thinking of putting some ss scrubber in the column but i havent yet

75% sound about right without packing.

Was the wash you put in at a reduced ABV,if it did not ferment out properly or you used less sugar ,the output from your still what ever it is will be down.cheers hillzabilly

I would also check your coolant supply ,kinked lines ,blocked pump ,broken valve ,not enough coolant could give low ABV's and high temps .cheers hillzabilly
