T500

Postby Pugdog1 » Sun Feb 19, 2017 9:34 am

Hi guys.

I have a t500 and am looking to upgrade the boiler. What's the biggest volume boiler I could use?

And I've found a company that can do big as pots up to 185L for a decent price and it comes with a lid similar to the t500 standard lid except it's flat and I would need to drill a hole to mount the column. Does the hole need to be centred on the lid?

Hoping to go for a 5star boiler but this is my fallback if SWMBO declines my purchase request :laughing-rolling:

gee,

hope you have lots of spare time 185 litre boiler on a T500 must take about 100 years to do a run.

We try to stick to about 100L for a hobby boiler mate :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Think of the power you'd have to throw at it, and the time you'd need to do a run.

What heating elements would a 185 l boiler need to get up to temperature and how long would it take would be an interesting
day.

Better off upgrading the still to a pot and using the same boiler, like ed pointed out 185L would take over 7 x the time you take to do a 25L run.
My old low wines 25L runs on the t500 would take me 5-6hrs so you'd be looking at a run that takes 42hrs!!!!! Solid!
Can you sit there for 2 days changing jars?

Didn't plan on actually getting the 185L size but that's what they offer up to. I was thinking 100L so maybe 75L run with head room.

Wider columns have faster output as well don't they? Because this/the 5star milk can boiler is the first step then I want to move up to a 4" or 6" column from 5star as well (long term goals)

I was thinking I could get the boiler now but if it's not worth doing with the t500 I won't then

Worth doing as long as your prepared for long days. Remember you can put less in a big boiler you cant put more in a small one.. i would not go with the stock pot unless it already has an airtight lid and there is a suitable gasket available for it. Push for the milk can :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Pot has the same seal as a t500 boiler. I agree on the milk can though. It's what I really want but unfortunately what me and the wife want vary a bit haha

All things I would need to add up and pass onto my finance manager (wife) haha

But if I did a pot it'd be whatever the cost of two weldless elements are and a drill bit
