New 2" CM reflux build

Postby Fishleg » Sun May 21, 2017 6:17 pm

Did vinegar and sac cleaning run with my new 2" reflux still today.
All went really well, found a couple of pinhole leaks during vinegar steam rum which were swiftly rectified.
Then onto cleaning run.
I know CM stills are like the dole bludger cousin of VM and LM stills. But I like mine, it has a 1 m tall packed column with stainless steel wool into 200mm shotgun RC (4x1/2 inch internal) into 300mm shotgun PC. (Everything 2" external)

It runs pretty good although quite touchy. It can almost achieve full reflux with all four rings going on my gas burner and does it no worries with 3 rings.

Pulled 93% abv

Today was just cleaning run done with a mix of feints, foreshots and a few failed experiments put in the boiler at about 30% abv

But yeah that's the plan, to strip tpw with pot still and spirit run thru this rig. Also any failed experiments or feints from feints runs will be fed to this still

Only thing preventing vapour going to product condenser is the reflux condenser. There is no gate valve or anything like that.
Cooling lines go in the bottom and out the top on both condensers

Brain feels like mashed potato at the moment. I should refrain from posting after my tenth or so beer. Walked the kids to school and now I'm going back to bed.
Cm stills are quite popular as nearly all plated stills are one.
