Hey guys have run a vinegar run on my 2" copper boka and have also run my sacraficial tpw. Just wondering..the column is shiny but theres a bit of black on the slant plates. Am i safe to run my keeping runs? Or is something else required? Cheers..

Citric acid cleans copper up quite well. Use a warm solution of citric and a scrub from a brush or something similar to get rid of any residues and rinse the rest with the citric and it should come up nice and bright.

Never drink the sacraficial run after you have built or cleaned your still.

New still/new parts/repaired still > vinegar run > sacraficial > strip run > spirit run.

Vinegar run you can toss.
Sacraficial run you can keep for next time you need to do one or toss it, but never drink it.
Strip run, collect down to 20% and repeat until you have a boiler full of low wines.
Spirit run collect and dillute to ageing or drinking strength.

Better yet have a good read through the newbies corner.

HI ,

So what you are saying is after i soldered the spirit exit pipe back onto my column i need to clean etc , then do a run discard that run then the next run is fine to drink ? (really waste a whole wash on the 1st run ?? is not there some other type of cleanse that can be done ?

Regards Bazz

Unfortunately that is the safest way to do it. I keep my sacrificial run and reuse it so I'm not wasting as much grog. I would suggest a turbo cause its quick or go to the bottleo and buy the nastiest cheapest 6 pack of wine or goon bag and use that. Just water it down so it covers your element :handgestures-thumbupleft:

You don't have to run the whole run through if you dont want just do it for 30mins or so and it should be good.

Tomato paste wash is cheap to make. Never drink first wash after soldering/welding copper or stainless..
