T500 First Run

Postby Sovaka » Wed Apr 10, 2019 7:51 pm

Gday,
Thought I'd post the details of my first spirit run.
Recipe: 25L TPW
Distillation Time: 4hrs
Volume Produced: 2.7 - 2.8 Litres
Alcohol Percent: 94%
Operating Temp: 53°c - 56°c

Overall I'm very pleased.
It was a flawless run as I had zero issues.
I credit that to having read the 'How to run a T500 properly' thread.

This run was basically a conditioner and cleaning run.
Ive stored the alcohol for further use in general cleaning and for the Missus soap production requirement.

My next run will be FFV most likely and I'm really looking forward to it.

Thank you to this community as it is an invaluable source of information.
Looking forward to trying out the various recipes everyone has come up with.

Cheers.

Sounds like a perfect run :handgestures-thumbupleft:
I’d suggest a wbab for your next run, it has a great mouth feel through the t500.

Interesting recipe that is.
We always have weetbix, just need to source the bran.
Seems simple enough, I will definitely add it to my top 5 to try last.
Thank you!

Hi Sovaka,

I’m about to complete my first TPW and am going to use your results as my guide!

Just wondering if you remember what your wash ABV was before distilling it?

I’ve got my SG down to .990-.992 but the alcohol reading is very low, below 10%.

One thing I may have made a mistake with is when making the wash I put an extra 2L of water in, could this have effected it

Cheers :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Sovaka hasn't visited us for over a year.

I'm not sure you can trust an alcometer in a wash to be honest. Do you know what the starting gravity was? You can use that and final gravity to calculate the ABV of your wash. Around 10% sounds reasonable to me if you had more water than the recipe calls for.

Thanks Professor Green!

SG readings:
Day 1 - 1.070
Day 2 - 1.050
Day 3 - 1.020
Day 4 - 1.002
Day 5 - .995

I will check again tomorrow, everything has been going smoothly but as this is only my second ever wash I thought id check!

The ABV was lower than 10% today and that's why I was worried

Thanks mate :handgestures-thumbupleft:
