I've made a start....

a bunch of metal bits

Soft soldered

Testing for leaks

Main part of the column done
(It's got a very slight tilt - so it depends on how good my mates welding goes as to whether i try to redo it.
I haven't cut any to make the slant plates yet - so the columns not going to be quite that tall

More pics next weekend - i might make the leibig next and tackle the coil last :p

Awesome! looking forward to updates.

Get the coil done early then you don't have to think about it... it's not as painful as people make out :))

a bonus (but unrelated) pic from the same day

The amount of munted-ness on that cappy - might provide enough surface area to use a column packing :laughing-rolling:

Thanks NotBenStiller, It's great to see these builds-in-progress, and watch how it all comes together.

Makes me want to build a Boka.......

Had a go at the double coil today.....
Garden rake has exactly 1" diameter - sweet :handgestures-thumbupleft:
20120916_123210.jpg

Practice run with 1/4 - just straight up winding with no packing - easy done
20120916_182558.jpg

And then with 3/8.
I filled the pipe with water then sealed - but the end with soldering sprung a leak part way thru
Other end had a staino bolt with telfon tape and held up fine - i'll do that for both ends next time
20120916_182608.jpg

The inner coil has a huge kink (can see it in the last pic) so i'ma try the inner coil again next weekend
It does flow well enough but i'm sure it could be better
It will have 3/4 or 1 cold finger when i'm done - haven't decided yet - and dunno what difference there would be
20120916_182616.jpg

Fits well in the 3" column

Heat that kink up glowing red then gently squeeze it with a pair of pliers to reform the tube :handgestures-thumbupleft:

It'll be fine dude

All looking good bloke, but I'd do a simple flow test on the 3/8 coil, and get it flowing before you put it into service.

If you have a slant in the column soldering, just give it a good pull to right it. I'm sure you were 14 once, give it a pull like you did back then.

Well, maybe not like then, too much to clean up.

EDIT; put a sock over the end, just in case!

Seems the torch i have doesn't have the heat to get copper red hot.
So i did the inner coil again with the left overs

Filled with water and put a SS bolt in each end
20120929_130705.jpg

A couple small kinks at the beginning but then i just kept winding and used the other end after cutting off the kinks.
Heaps better than the first go

Tried to solder in a cold finger but failed miserably - i need to rethink how to go about it

New coil looks good :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Have a practice on the old offcut's for soldering, I find heating all around the join well before quickly heating the actual join helps a lot and I find bakers soldering fluid to be good shit as it's harder to burn than the powdery flux.

Mocked up the leibig ready for a clean and a bit of solder - very standard and will be piss easy to solder.
24" - 3/4 over 1/2

Finally some progress - got the keg welded up today
Just need to passivate and check for leaks
(My mate hasn't been on the tools for a long while so hopefully it'll all be good)
I'll just need to clean up some edges and whatnot myself

Hi NotBenStiller new kid on the block ,looks like its coming along great. I have a few questions for you . 1 is the big
opening purly for charging the pot? 2 Will the 3 inch pipe increese the reflux rate very much ? And do you think a
4 ring burner with a good reg power this unit ok ? :geek: :-D

I think NBS ate 1 too many tacos :laughing-rolling:

A 3" bok is a serious bit of gear mate, they will produce a lot quicker than a 2" job.

Well worth the extra investment in my opinion :handgestures-thumbupleft:
