You've already got a crack. I can see it to the right of screen.

Hi Guys,
i'm going to do my first spirit run with this beast tomorow.
Any Tips? do i run it the same as when I did my stripping runs or do i close the take off valve a bit and let the piss come out a little slower?

You're going to have to close the valves right of for a while after it's boiled to equalise the column, then pull foreshots and heads via the LM until your into hearts, then you close LM, equalise again before opening VM valve..... it takes a few runs to get the hang of doing a full on spirit run ;)

On HD you'll want to read the couple of threads on running LM and VM stills, the threads are in the reading lounge there.

Good luck :)

edit: First time I ran my old vm/lm I printed those two topics and kept em with me while running the still ;)

If your doing a full keg? have a nice "day"

Sorry mate, i should have been clearer.
I will be doing a spirit run of my UJSSM ,5L of low wines ( not neutral which i think you assumed :D )
I assume that I still need to run in Pot still mode?
only slower? :D

Ah ok, yeah bring her up to the boil and back the heat off to a nice steady stream, dont push the heat to hard or you'll smear your cuts ;)

I done my first Neutral run today, this thing stayed a constant 78 deg and pulled a litre @ 95% in an hour :D
I'm still learning to drive this Mo Fo, but so far i'm impressed

Once you get her dialed in right you'll be taking about 1.5 to 1.7 liters per hour ;)

It's going to be tough tho with the valve on your take off though, you really do need a needle valve on your LM take off to get it fine tuned

It's a great rig for getting neutrals

Cheers Mac,
the valve aint too bad, we,ll see maybe later down the track ;)
at the moment i'ts mainly used as a pot still (with good results)
