Reflux still design and discussion

my CM idea

I can't see any reason to put a thumper on a reflux still if you are already pulling close to azeotrope from it......

It's really more designed for pot stills to increase ABV

The thumper can benefit a reflux column by feeding it with already higher proof distillate, by doing this you can dramatically decrease the height of the packed column while shortening run times.

There's a lot going on in the world of these hybrid type stills, exact proportions isnt quite known yet but if you work on a thumper plus a meter of packed column you'll get close to azeotrope.... then it's just a matter of increasing or decreasing the packed column section to get the required result.

Thanks for the info mac, every bit helps :handgestures-thumbupleft: . Would a thumper affect the way the vapor is drawn off when it's equalized??.

Needle valves ?

for coolant?

You can get away with gate valves mate for coolant, but you dont want a valve anywhere in your vapor path on a CM.

Bloody kimbo steering me in the wrong direction :teasing-tease: , thought it was wrong cause I'd read everywhere they use gate valves. anyway back to my original thoughts, thanks for clearing that up Mac :handgestures-thumbupleft: and yes I knowno valve in vapors path :handgestures-thumbupleft: . So, just 1/2" gate for 1/2" lines ?. I have a 3/ 4 laying around here would that be ok?, I'd like to use it if I can, save $.

googe,

are you talking about bubblers or CM reflux stills?

it gets confusing when you ask similar questions in multiple threads.

Gate valves work well, they just dont give you the fine control of a needle valve, good needle valves are expensive.

If your going to all that trouble for a CM you might as well shove some plates up its arse :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I don't imagine it would , just like making different things and very happy if they work. Would be easier than other plates, less work . Thanks for the ideas mate.
