Check out this crack on my Pure Distilling rig

Postby BackyardBrewer » Tue Feb 19, 2013 9:40 pm

...noticed this today. That's a brass fitting with a huge T shaped crack. The other fitting has a smaller one developing.

For a unit that's not quite 12 months old I'm pretty dark.

Planning on going back to the brew shop I got it from on the weekend. Hoping some kind of warrantee is in place.

Is that on the coolant lines? a brass compression fitting? it looks like it

I think I got a couple 3/8 staino ones here you can have if you get no joy with the HBS.

EDIT: just realised it would be 1/4"

Yeah it's the water connections. I guess I can replace 'em but Bill from the HBS said he'd never had one come back with a fault.

I'd say cracking like that after a year is a fault! Lucky I have my reciept:-)

Admittedly I work this sucker pretty hard - average once every 10 days for a year.

I'd say it looks as though it's been over tightened, it looks like a stress fracture ;-)

Have to say I always run a jet lighter on the end of the hose before I connect them so they go on fairly easy. :D get worried I might break it as I have thumbs for fingers and break sh$t all the time.

Is only hand tightened, and that's only tightened to avoid leaks. The one that's cracked cant be used for input water, only output. It had a very slow drip from early on. No drama when using it as an output, but I'm surprised I could put enough force on it to crack it by hand...
