4400 watts won't take long to get it up to running temp :)

4400W fuggen priceless :D

I reckon 1.5 to 1.7L per hour @95% once he's got it sussed ;)

Thanks for the compliment, I wish I could get paid by the hour for building them ;)

Cheers.

Hahaha once I get it completely sealed that is.

Cheers again to maheel for helping me with the drilling.

Those damn silicone rings are useless. I am not sure if it was too loose or too tight but I could simply not get a good seal.

I also tried using teflon tape as maheel suggested to try and get a good seal but no luck

I ended up going down to bunnings and picked up some pure silicone filler, I put the gasket on the inside and went to town with the gun under and around the closing nut.

If this doesn't work I give up lol.

I hope you are right McStill ps :D

With those elements you don't need to tighten them up to much and they'll seal, did you get a file and clean up the inside of the hole to get rid of any burr? That could be your problem?

If you over tighten them it'll stuff the washer. I hope she seals up for you :)

I've been reading a lot about silicone sealants and there seems to be some good news about this, apparently? 100% pure silicone is ok to use for certain things in our field, and being in your boiler and not exposed to high proof alcohol vapor the consensus suggests it's fine.

Looking forward to hearing about your first run, please keep us informed, and if you run into any drama's you got my phone number ;)

Cheers.

Doh! Where were you 4 hours ago Spud!

And I did make sure it was 100% silicone out of fear of evil glue vapour.

Bit late how haha but I have a good feeling about how its looking now so fingers crossed.

LOL, you didn't get rid of the burr from the inside did you?

I have drilled a few kegs now, you can get some big burrs on the inside, not that I have done it myself - don't put your finger inside and run it around to see if its ok.......... it's sharp and you'll cut your finger. I know someone that has done that but I won't mention any names

If worse comes to worse take it out and get a file onto it then put it back in.

something else you can do is hammer the area is a bit flatter, the boiler is rounded and your trying to seal it "flat"
you might have to file those edges a bit as well

but go slow with the hammer

i noticed mine showing a few drips the other night, just enough to for a drip to bead up and hang on the edge

i ruined my silicone one in about 5 mins during install.....

Just filled the keg up and not a drop leaking :)

14.7% staged bakers yeast washes sitting at 0.990 SG

Looks like I'm going to be putting on my hill-billy hat on tomorrow afternoon! :D

I'll let you guys know how I go.

Just print out the instructions I showed you, and keep them with you while your doing your first couple of runs and you'll be fine.

Good luck

Doing a run now. Going nicely :)

After some mucking around and one house fuse later I seem to have the hang of it :P .

Pouring out at ~1.5L / hour, sitting pretty at 78.6 degrees C.

I used 2 elements to heat up (took ~50 min for approx 45L) but only 1 once it reaches temp (bleeds vapour if I use 2).

Ill measure the proof once I finish.

Thanks again McStill and Maheel :D

Great to see your in the groove with it, some might get jealous at your take off rate, especially if your pulling 95%

Cant wait to here the outcome

Took a reading. After correction for temp I am looking about bang on 94%.

While its not quite 95%, at the rate its pouring out and the ease of use of the still I am extremely happy with the result.

I am positive if I slowed it down and really pushed it I would be able to hit 95% but that extra 1% doesn't really concern me at the moment.

I am currently at around 4L of hearts collected. I also tossed around 800-900mls of foreshots/heads due to the mucking around at the start.

I think ill call it quits at around 5L or if the temp suddenly spikes.

Now I just have to wait a few days before I can try it haha 8-)
