Any feedback on Nixon Stone Reflux Stills?

Postby emzy » Sat Jul 20, 2013 1:23 pm

Hi everyone,

With all the combined experience on this site i was wondering if anyone could offer some feedback on the following still i am looking at buying ? basically, is it any good compared to other stills ?

From my limited amount of knowledge on the subject it seem to tick all the boxs in so fare as a Reflux Still is concerned.

Its advertised as a Nixon Stone 50mm Tube with 770mm Column. Apparently should produce 95%

There selling for $295 plus shipping from http://www.smugglers.net.au/index.php?p=1_26

Thanks for reading and look forward to any feedback you can offer.

Hey Emzy,
That's the exact same still and vendor that I bought first. Works fine. I did make a couple of mods to it and pushed out 93 94 all day.
Not a bad neutral still. Better than a flamin T500 anyway. BUT it's no plated column.

Looks like a reflux condenser at the top of the column? I was thinking the same thing..

Correctamundo guys. He advertises it as a nixon stone but that swollen bit is a cooling jacket. CM for sure. It runs OK though. Just gotta invest in some more packing and I put a centering ring just below the cooling jacket. Not saying buy the thing, just saying what it did for me. I'll sell ya mine if ya want

With a colunm that short, you'd have so much reflux ratio to get 95% that it would be Fuuuckkkinnnng slow

Now use 50l Keg with Pot head for Rum and Neutral stripping runs on gas .
LM/VM head with 1m packed 2" on Still Spirits boiler for Neutrals.

I've got a very similar still head (keggomax cm) for when I want to make neutrals. It puts out 1L/H of 95-96% with no modifications. If I'm happy with 92-93% I can bump the output up to around 1.5L/H

What size element do you have Canadoz
