Hi, I had a still which is similar to yours i think.
I started a thread and got a lot of good advice about running the still as well as some future modifications (if your interested)
Here is the thread viewtopic.php?f=17&t=3830&p=62969#p62969

Good luck

Just had a friend stress me out about my still... something like this, how worried should I be about lead in soldering? :-(

You might want to find out from who made it wether they used lead solder. If you can't find out there are test kits you can get off eBay.

If it is lead then who knows what damage it may do to you and your friends but lead poisoning isn't something to be messed with :scared-eek:

While on subject of this older style still, does anyone have any input on how they perform as a pot still with the packing removed?

Never done it but it should work pretty well if you can get most the packing out :handgestures-thumbupleft:

yes if it passes the lead test that would be a fine use for it. They are not super great as a reflux still as they simply struggle to know down vapor efficiently where its needed to get the amount of reflux required for an azeotropic neutral where in the column its required to achieve that result in a single run. Really it all depends on what you are happy with, these stills are not very efficient but some people are content with what they produce and some are not
Being not so efficient would make it preform really well unpacked as a pot still though :handgestures-thumbupleft:
