Linny's Simple Still

Postby Linny » Mon Oct 21, 2013 5:48 pm

Well i originally went down the bubbler route and it was fantastic , but it took too much space up for me and i was making way too much. So ive decided on going through a build something easy for folk to copy if they want to and i will be trying different things and showing where and what ill be using. This time im using a 11L pot and modifying it to be used as a boiler , and i want to make a interchangable boka and pot. I do believe i can make something as good as a bubbler , just not as fast. I will be also using a power controller.

So far I have constructed part of the boiler and 99% of parts needed for the controller - just waiting on a heat sink

Here is the Heater Element http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/190886312551 ... 1439.l2649

1500W to 10L fill , should take about 25 minutes to get to temp and have a vapour speed of about 50cm per second... thats why i need the power controller

So your going to make a small pot and boka for a small boiler?

This might be great for your needs and maybe a few others but there is a reason that most people end up upgrading to at least a bigger boiler :handgestures-thumbupleft:

T500 wall is pretty thin . And its element is already 2000w . Add the 1500w you will need a 15 amp circuit to run them.

Have you tried insulating your boiler?

equipment: Eve - 4" x 4 plate solid state bubbler (sieve plates), 330 mm packed section on a keg boiler with 2 x 2000 W elements.
Currently having a makeover: 2" x 4 plate solid state bubbler (1" bubble caps, no sight glasses...maybe not for much longer!) on a bain-marie boiler.

Quick update : finally have all the parts just need to wire it now .... once this is done , time to move onto the boiler

I have a bit of 2.5" floating around - enough for a pot... but priced up 1m of 2.5" for a boka which was $45 or $179 for 6m. i figured i would take the hit and just get 1m. So next week ill be ordering 2.5" triclamps and ferrules and hopefully get this well under way. I am in no hurry so im just taking my time.

Got the electric circuit sorted. Do you think the wall would be to thin to handle the element?

Insulated already. It reduced the boil up time significantly.

Dont want to swamp Linny's thread with to many of my questions. Sorry mate.

Bit of a update ... Finally started to pull my finger out , im still in no rush so im just taking my time .

Made up a Hardwood Jig to easily flange out the pipe and knocked out the pot and boka flanges

Moved onto the boka coil, made another little jig to help roll it ,,, This was my neighbours idea long ago ,,, OMG it is so easy to roll
