Dirty Jobs TV Rum Distillery 5.6.2011

Postby QLD.Andy » Sun Jun 05, 2011 5:45 pm

Mike visits the Newport Rum Distillery tonight on Discovery 2 @ 6.30pm, I just caught the tail end of the show.
Here's a snip from the show: http://dsc.discovery.com/videos/dirty-j ... -distiller

Their still reminds me of your triple window jobby.
They must have stole the idea from you
They didnt mention how long the stuff was in barells or give away many secrets, but yea not a bad show considering.
And it goes to show you dont need to be huge to go commercial.

It's a Holstein still, mine and many others are based on this design that have been around for a long time, but some will say it's their claim to fame as they reinvented the wheel

Couple of things I found interesting:

After they do the stripping run they recharged the boiler with 53% ABV low wines, most would say that's dangerous and a boiler charge should not be more than 40% ABV

They are fairly liberal when it comes to the use of plastic and high proof alcohol :o

Their way of doing cuts made me laugh, if it burns your eye it's heads

I'm going to watch it again because I missed quite a bit of the show, I was busy watching kimbo's antics on that other site

Cheers.
