Just to add to what Sam said with a large diameter boka since it requires the distillate to actually run over the structured mesh if it starts to run down the walls it reduces the efficiency leading to lower %abv. With a large diameter and longer distance more and more liquid will flow down the walls rather than the mesh which leads to the need for centreing rings. On the other hand bubble plates are flat and catch liquid so running down the walls doesnt matter.

I don't much like it. The flavor doesn't really come through that well. I oaked some 2 years ago and it’s still not that great. I only do it cause I have access to honey that isn't any good for anything else.

It takes forever to ferment and it’s definitely not worth it if you had to pay for it.

Here's my first attempt
viewtopic.php?t=1710&p=124102#p124097

I now just strip it for neutrals

Rum spirit run 35ish litres of 40% low wines.

Funny one, first few jars had a greenish tinge, at about jar 3 I stopped it and took the still off and gave it a good hard rinse.
Back going again still a greenish tinge, so I gave my parrot a good hard rinse, didn't look dirty but afterwards the green went away, I guess must have been a bit of oxidisation in the bottom of the parrot. Rest of the run went well.

All grain 60% medium peat 40% heavy peat malt. Through the pot and thumper.
Smells and tastes sensational off the still.
Distilling relatively high temp though, started at 70% @ 88° 150ml to 200ml cuts, not sure on vol as jars aren’t calibrated, jar 5 is 62% @ 90°
Would this be beachside the wash was lower abv? (8.6%)

Either way, very happy with the smell and taste carry over.

Iv noticed that our AGs come off the still very differently to all the sugar heads we've been doing. As in, lower qty of heads, same qty of hearts and Tails comparatively to the wash size... and, like you, I find it far more pleasing to the taste straight off the still.

Hoping this continues in future runs!

Uj gen 1, still ran like shit,again.. bottom plate not sealing properly. After a litre and a half tailsy taste and fogging on bottom glass. Vapour from top of cap on bottom plate (boltholes) and from parts of the outside edge of plate. Unloading after upping take off speed to 2lph. Re equalised and ran slower (1.2 lph) got some more hearts. Cant wait for 5sd to get back about new 106 plates to fit my new gaskets. Seems my bubbler can only run well on low wines atm. Upgrades in process, on the upside the new dc i made and was testing on this run worked a treat, 3/4 tube straight through to a 25mm dc cap. Will do the rest as i have enough tube for it and may help for now. Ended up with 2ĺ at aging proof and 2l of 85% feints/strip

Yea Ezi, will have to wait til they air, but it seemed to go from fores to heads. We took about 150ml foreshots and I dabbed my finger in the stream, not a hint of sharp nail polish remover etc, so straight into 250ml jars. ( thought it was less, about 150 odd, but was surprised to find it was 250 when measured.)
Won’t tie this tread up anymore, will write the run up on the thread I started with the mash. :handgestures-thumbupleft:
