Hi it is good time to revive this subject.
My backgound will keep me near the vodka drinking habits, however, I am not a drink fanatic. Beers and wines are, unfortuanetly, strictly for the taste only as there is too much stuff in them hurting my gut - pushing it out of wack.
But beer and wine has its own secret qualities - they can be cleaned. So last few months I've been experimenting with stripping and then part reflux treating some, rather old wine. I've drawn the reflux take at 78.8C 78.9C which is quite close to neautral but not there yet.
I had the hearts about 92%-93% of very nice, sweet tasting spirit. I did two things to it:
Diluted at first to standard ~40%.
1. put one 'bottle' on roasted oak powder for about 20 minutes
2. left the pure 40% brandy if the freezer for few hours.
Well, the baby oaked brandy was surprisingly nice and smooth (room temp). The real surprise was the brandy/wodka. Completely clear, very smooth drink with simple sweet taste lingering for seconds in the end. There is quite a complex buquet even though it is very delicate and one would think such a cold drink sould not bother with aromas.
Sipped in tiny quantities is a very reasonable drink for its, virtually, non existend age.
So this year the isy cold wine vodka is being used over the year break.
Na zdrowie!
