Obvious thing to be done , is legitimise home distilling , set a volume , say 100 or 200 liters a year and not try to grab tax ... foreign idea to government but right now the get sfa tax from it anyway
this way they get the tax from materials used , legalise a thriving cottage hobby and it is win win , New Zealand has been working perfectly so maybe our messed up controllers can try this one as well

I don't think Excise tax reform (or lack thereof) is going to have any impact on legalising the hobby. The tax system is complex but IMO it's simpler to understand than some of the recipes/processes published here.

It's not really a revenue thing either, I doubt there would be many of us that would exceed the 9500+ litres (@ 40%) that commercial distillers can produce before having to pay anything.

Rather I think it's a product safety concern. You can't do to much damage brewing beer (other than through outright consumption). But there's real safety risks with distilling spirits.

Plus there's no political points available here.

Some may say thats not enough (us heavy drinkers) and some will say its way too much and must be selling (the do gooders and tax dept)

problem solved

FFS stop dreaming and poking the bear, the fucked up government/ATO, need to work out how to tax it before they'll make it legal. Currentyly It's illegal in Oz (so live with it!) and always will be until the cunts in (goverment work out how to it tax ffs).

Spend more time experimenting with differrent washes and techniques to perfect your craft to your specific tastes than worrying if it'll become legal!

If not, get another hobby to fill in your time FFS!
