Ok, so blending mission #1:
Blended bottles #2, #3, #4 - equal parts (about 60mL all up, I think). According to my notes:
#2: from a cut that smelt wet cardboardy, plus 100mL of what I think is heads, had heaps of apple pie smell and some strange solvent smell. Added only american oak chips.
#3: from wet cardboard bottle, plus what I think is hearts. This time with a smaller amount of a-oak chips and 1/2 teaspoon of natural vanilla essence.
#4 Same as #1 (wet cardboard, no apple pie, harsh bite, 6 sultanas, tspn vanilla bean paste, small piece of cinnamon), but doubled ingredients.
I know, very accurate and scientific..
Anyway, with coke tastes fucken fantastic. But I could just be sozzled, I'm not sure.. Quite harsh, which is how I like it.

Oh uh..
I now realise why this blended rum is soo good. I didn't dilute it from 65%..
Is there a way I can make my 40% rum this harsh without having to keep it at NASA fuel levels? When I dilute it to 40% it becomes smooth, which isn't what I want.

Really? Peppercorns will do that?
Now the question is, do I tamper with my ageing rums after having a few (fair few) or wait til morning?
I love rum. I might call my first kid 'rum'. Or at least 'rumdrew' or 'rumchael'.

I haven't had that many!
So adding peppercorns really adds that harshness? So instead of using parts of the heads, I could just add peppercorns?
What about caramelised sugar? I've read about that in my interwebz travels. That Harry's great grandad's recipe uses it doesn't it?

pepper corns will add bite, and a little harshness depending how much you use

So any tips on starting amounts of peppercorns? I might add some to the next batch and see how it goes. Would be good to be able to add that nastiness without resorting to headache-material.
