Well as SWMBO loves here apple cider decided to put on a black rock draught cider and instead of using sugar got a No.10 pack from the HB shop, anyway no way to check the gravity as silly me forgot :angry-banghead: to get a new hydrometer as the rats knocked my old one off the bench. Anyway with some nights saw the ferment go down to 15 degrees :scared-eek: so though by putting the shed fire should warm it up so dult every night in the last week put the fire on in the shed and found the ferment was around 17 degrees. So being the weekend thought of a novel way to get the temp up by simply hooking up a 12 volt fan sitting on the top side of the fire and pointing at the fermenter.

After a few hours found the temp differential was around 5 degrees with the ambient about 15 degrees. Decided to put the temp gauge on the fan and saw 35 degrees and by the end of today the ferment is sitting on 21 degrees :happy-partydance: :happy-partydance: :happy-partydance:

So this morning I thought well aint had a ferment going all winter and as I got the cider going may aswell put put on a tpw. So duly inverted 10 kg's of sugar with the last one doing the legos paste and fount the final temp was 30 degrees with the fermeter full so put a nice dose of lowans baking yeast in and stirred it 3 minutes to get the yeasties going. :music-deathmetal:

Cheers Bryan

60l corn sugarhead whiskey

2l cracked corn
1 tin Morgan's caramalt malt extract
8kg white sugar
1/2 cup lowans

I really like the last one of these that I made, it was with coopers wheat and barley malt extract.
Hopefully this one goes good too.

This got delivered today. Gonna convert my current gen 3 raw sugar wbab into a gen 4 wbab with 50 percent fermentables from molasses. Looking for a slightly lighter dark rum brew. If it ferments well, ill be going for a full molasses dark rum gen 5.

Well, whiskeys generally arent generational. And ive been making vodka from it so far cause it tastes nicer than tpw. Figure if i throw in a bunch of molasses ill end up with something like a light grainy rum. 10kg of molasses and 20kg of raw sugar should make a nice mix om thinking.

Sounds like Indian whisky. Never tried it but read a bit out it, seems to be a hybrid between whisky and rum.

Holy crap rum ferments hard. 10kg molasses and 20kg of raw sugar in on top of a wbab starter and topped up to 200L. Sounds like someone trapped a hive of hornets in my fermenter.

Oh, and it smells amazing.

What sort of gravity do you get with 21kg of each? I was at 1100 last night (probably inaccurate) and 1060 this morning (more reasonable)

Couldnt tell you as i havnt bothered taking gravity. Mac rum is 3l m and 3kg sugar per 25-30l volume so i just times that by 7 +5l extra water for a nice round number.. :D
