Put another 80L of rum wash down yesterday, with the warm weather this week I should be right to do another double run this weekend!

Sometimes mother nature works in our favour. Did the all grain with malt yeast and has been cool and raining ever since and is supposed to continue for a week :happy-partydance: week before was stinking hot for my rum.. :D

A CFW mixed bag :handgestures-thumbupleft:

I had a pack of some old single serve cereals out of the camping box so they went in with the cornflakes and a tin of LME. So there's some special K, saultana bran, nutri grain pretty much all of them except the coco pops :laughing-rolling:

Should be interesting :handgestures-thumbupleft:

The coco pops may have given it a hint of chocolate. That would not be a bad thing :).

Not sure how cocoa would carry over  milo has been done.. choc barley malt certainly imparts a strong choc taste :handgestures-thumbupleft:

What OG did you get, seems like a lot of grain

On my 3v system at 85% Id get 1.083 SG with that so potential of 12% if it ferments out dry (which it always does when I dont boil it) I normally get away with 11.5-12kg if im aiming for 1.070 (10.5%)

Normally I aim for 1.050 (8%ish) and use 9-9.5kg of malt :p just because I get better flavour carry over

Very new to all grain, only got 61% on one 67% on the other have only done 3 all grain mashs so far not sure of effeciency on my first mash. Had 1.060sg on the 14kg barrett burston. Check out my whiskey all grain thread I have been posting in there about my adventures with detailed info on what I am doing..

Mash number two I got 1.064 sg and 67% effeciency was 10kg barret burston and 4kg peated distillers 2 row..

1.050sg 8%? Do you get yours to finish at below 1.000? If it finished at 1.000 would need 1.062sg to hit 8%. I havnt had one finish below 1.015 fg yet in my extensive 3 mash career.. :D

I mash in at the lowest temp (64.4C 90mins) I can so that it ferments out dry and I don't boil my wort at the end, never had an issue with getting down to 0.990 FG. Have used a few different yeasts and still gotten that low :p

Hi Clickeral,
Do you increase your temp in steps or stay at 64.4°c for the 90min only? I was able to maintain 66°c in our esky tunn and we were really pleased with our results. Beginners luck I think as it was our first go but sg went from 1.053 to 0.991.

Bluc has seemed to have been doing everything right but has had some strange results. Our temps are a couple of degrees different (I didn’t sparge with the BIAB) and if memory serves, bluc was only a couple of degrees different to me. Just wondering how much difference temp really makes, or if bluc might actually be struggling with grain that has lost its diastatic power?
