I have 2 of these in the same spot and a 50lt blue drum.
This one (being the beer fermenter) is the only one that has crazed like this.
I’m thinking it’s the sun combined with the hot water cleaning routine.

Plastics should last pretty much forever in the absence of uv light and harsh chemicals. I can't imagine what chemicals you could have exposed it to (even the strongest commercially available sterilisers used properly won't degrade the plastic), so uv light has got to be it. I don't think any manufacturers would go to the hassle of adding uv stabilisers to fermenters too.

equipment: Eve - 4" x 4 plate solid state bubbler (sieve plates), 330 mm packed section on a keg boiler with 2 x 2000 W elements.
Currently having a makeover: 2" x 4 plate solid state bubbler (1" bubble caps, no sight glasses...maybe not for much longer!) on a bain-marie boiler.

If you are concerned about the hygienic integrity of the fermenter, put a garbage bin liner inside it

So if it’s UV, why hasn’t the other “normal” fermenter done the same?
But I do tend to agree that UV makes sense.
I’m not so condemned aboutvthe hygienic integrity of the the vessel more so the burst factor or leakability of it.
This ferment will be its last.
Can anybody play the trumpet ?

You’ve got 2 weeks to practice before she’s sent to sea (landfill actually unless anybody has a better idea)
