Alcohol Proof Adhesive

Hi guys,

I've got a submersible pump that I use for transferring mash into my boiler but it looks like the adhesive they used to join the plastic ends to the main metal body doesn't like even small amounts of alcohol & both ends have come unstuck. Does anyone have a suggestion on what I should use to reattach the two ends? I was going to use 5 minute epoxy but thought I should look for something atleast close food grade...

Thanks

Got a pic?

I would be looking to interfearane fit something - jam it in with ptfe tape?

It's already a fairly tight fit but still pulls apart at the top especially when pulling it out of the drum. I might try your idea as a temp fix but I think it really needs to be glued back together properly.

yep use the pfte tape to jam it together then a few wraps of duct tape should do the job :handgestures-thumbupleft:

General rule of thumb it if don't want to move duct tape it and if you do want it to move just use WD40 :laughing-rolling:

True but it also has to seal well so it doesn't suck air otherwise it won't be able to pump correctly when getting to the bottom... I'll give it a try if i can't find a decent adhesive/sealant.

Cheers

Just wire the ends on, make a harness like a champers cork at ea end and join em with a twisted bit to tension.

I like the basic chugger pump, its not fond of corn bits tho

Try cutting a drink can into strips and wrap it around like a shim until you get a tighter fit.

I second the PTFE idea.
I have wrapped some around a hose that has another larger hose slip over the top to pump diesel and it holds the hoses nice and tight without any clamps and doesn't suck air.

pin punch some dimples around the metallic pipe end ? some added friction/pressure might be enough

Thanks for all the ideas guys. Managed to get home of some alcohol resistant, food grade silicone. Seems to be working well atm so we'll see how it lasts otherwise I'll have to try one of the other ideas.
