Got an absolute bargain today

Postby MacStill » Sat Jun 04, 2011 12:24 pm

Went down to the local rural supplies shop this morning to buy some chook food and thought I'd have a look around, I seen this little pump sitting there all dirty with the box half eaten away by rats when the sales dude asks if I needed help.

Well I just said how much for the pump out of impulse and he said that fucken thing been here longer the him..... ten bucks!

How could I leave it there?

IMG_0229.JPG

So I took it home and hooked it up, plugged it in and she works like a charm

On the down side though, I forgot the fucken chook food

Anyone else get a bargain recently?

Found a 50L Tooheys keg at a garage sale today for $15 :) .....Got it home and after a 5 minutes of stuffing around trying to get the extractor bit out I ground down an old screwdriver and all was good in another few mins. This is going to come in really handy for storing my stripped UJSM in. It is ok isnt it????? Storing stripped wash in a stainless keg??? :? :?

Swapped a bottle of bourbon for a 225ltr french oak barrel today. The problem I now have is do I keep it whole or split it up, it had Shiraz in it for 3 years.

A mate dropped round with four 25 sheng bags of raw sugar on friday evening.

Said the mice at his work had chewed holes in the bags to see what it was then left it alone. Did i want the 100 kgs of sugar (delivered) for $25? 8-)

I managed to get a 40kg american oak wine barrel (used) today for $80. It's not sealing but I'm planning on just breaking it up. I thought that was a pretty good deal. Should be enough oak there to age my rums for a looong time.

Just bought a 50ltr beer keg for $15 and got a receipt with it, don't know if the receipt means much but it has the salvage yards name on it.

You may not own it but salvage yards are licensed second hand dealers so is not stolen also there are deposits on these so if is claimed would they return deposit was told about welding gas bottles stolen company charged for bottles where recovered and then gas company said where there bottles but they had been paid for bottles.

If anyone wants free American oak, here's what I do:
1. call into the local timber flooring shop
2. tell the salesman that your looking at doing 100m2 of American Oak in yer house :liar:
3. Ask can i have a couple of samples to convince the missus

Geez I"m a tight Arse :laughing-rolling:

The keg fairy came to visit my shed.
Yesterday I got 4 x 50litre kegs for free, the the spears are already removed!
My storage problems are now solved.
Now to give them a good clean and organise for a few threaded sockets so I can tap these babies.
I'm thinking maybe one for stripping, one for vodka, one for bourbon, one for scotch, one for rum.....
Oh and I got a 200litre plastic food grade drum (ex cherries) from my local stockfeed place for around $35 the other day so bring on the big washes!

Today was byo slurpee cup day at 711's( so for $2.60 you can fill any vessel that is less than 30cm by 30cm), so I got a couple of 10 liter buckets and filled em.

They melted a fair bit but I've ended up with about 10 liters of Slurpee mixed with 1.2L rum and dumped in demijohns in the freezer.

Yum Yum.
