My guess would be 50km by road as that is easy to determine from sat nav apps, google maps etc.

9 woman reporter on the morning show interviewing a local woman mayor on the beach holding the microphone up to her so no social distancing but do you think they will fine a reporter and a mayor for bad behaviour.

Over night I was worried about pitching the yeast on my first successful AG mash. After reading a thread on another forum I decided to malt 5kg's of barely I had here before the vermin decide to eat it all. Friday arvo after work saw the malt was ready for drying so put some 6mm plate ontop of my green can burner and some 25mm offcuts for the fences around the edge of the plate. Put about an inch thick of wet malt on then using 2 scrapers kept moving it around so not to let it burn from the hot plate. 2 cans later well not even that as the first one iced up and all the malt was done then it went into my hotbox until Sunday morning. I setup my 50 litre keg mash tun on a few bricks and once again used the green can burner as the heat source.

It took an hour and 20 minutes to get 20 litres of water to 77C then I dumped the 7 kg's of malt in, ( 6 kg's of the malt I made and one kg of Joe White malt) and just as the calc said the temp dropped to 68C. Now as I had the PID already setup for the tun I just wired up a new power line and used that as the temp gauge.

When the temp dropped to 64C on went the burner to get it back to 68C and did this for about 3 hours. Every 1/2 hour check with the iodine until finally it didn't change colour showing I did get the full conversion done.

I did try a 4 litre 72C sparge but it dropped the gravity from 1064 to 1048 and after putting it in the fermenter thought about trying to squeeze 24 litres out of the grain was too much to bear so decided to do a sugar bump to get to 40 litres so I can do a full run in my 4" bubbler. 4kg's did the trick and ended up with a SG of 1053.

I used US-05 yeast and rehydrated it in some mash before pitching, now the stick on temp gauge said the wash was 27C so pitched the yeast. Then I put on the DS1820 temp sensor and gave the mash a good run with my homemade mixer on my cordless drill for a few minutes to aerate the wash. Now when I turned on the micromite so see the temp it was 38C :scared-eek: :scared-eek: :scared-eek: So all last night thinking have I fried those poor yeasties :angry-banghead:

Well this arvo after cutting a load of wood got go have a look and wow the airlock is going off it's tit's and I had to put more water in the airlock. I will check again before bed and before I go to work in the morning to ensure there is water in the airlock.

With a bit of luck this will be ready to run this coming weekend and i will be putting some backset into the ferment once cool and doing a sugar bump to get the last of the goodness out of my homemade malt.

Happy as a pig in shit

Cheers Bryan

Cleaned up a bit after my last rum strip, spirit run starting in the morning. Got a new propane tank, emptied the dunder and re-filled one of 2 pits, filled the boiler and thumper with low wines and a splash of old dunder, and connected everything. Should be a long day.

I had about 15 or so extra liters of low wines, so now I'm planning on running them with the heads and tails of the spirit run plus a bunch of old dunder and some black bananas and frozen old oranges for a high ester experiment. The dunder is super perfumey, I didn't want too much in the spirit run, but on this one really I want to see what happens!

Scored this air conditioner that was being chucked out by the guy over the road. I was thinking of using the rear condenser as part of a cooling system for a future bubbler and then stripping the rest of the copper to maybe make a shotgun condenser or defleg. The label says it's rated at 2000w.

Do you guys reckon it's worth it, or better off chucking the lot? If it's worth it, what's the safest way to de-pressurise it and remove the refrigerant? And is the compressor useful to pump water around?

No one should tell you to not have it done by a pro with the right gear, too many $$. One already missing gas, bit of a different story

Take it to a scrappy and try to swap it for useful copper :handgestures-thumbupleft:

The air-conditioner condenser would be good as a cooling radiator for water but not for use near alcohol and if want to degas just break the small copper pipe but need to collect the oil.

The gravity on it read 1.030 that seems a bit low. What do you’ll think

If that barley wasn't malted and your not trying for AG, your short 8-10kg of sugar

I run 20 kg of sugar in a 100l sugarhead

Your fine to add it now, just don't spike your temp too far with hot sugar
