Spent an arvo in the shed neatening up the wiring in the other toy (boat).
So many people have had goes at wiring this thing over the years I am 1 dodgy wire away from stripping the whole lot out and starting from scratch! Might actually be a good idea and I can move the batteries to a less annoying location

Good onya mate, I'll be getting in and adding a battery and electric motor to my sailboat soon. Gonna put the battery as far forward as I can get to help balance the boat.

Just make sure the battery is designed for the bumping etc through waves. a lot of general car batteries die prematurely as they don't like the marine environment (hence most people put them at the back as its a smoother ride).
I was looking at a pair of 12AH sealed batteries up the front for electronics and keeping one in the rear for the outboard.
I have the annoyance of it unbalanced weight side to side (my fat a55) so moving up the front some extra weight should give me a better ride. I put the bait esky currently at the front to help that but know people who buy bags of cement!

Good point :handgestures-thumbupleft: It's a sealed marine battery, and my little 13' sailboat isn't a speed demon :laughing-rolling: it'll be braced between the strongback and the stem. Both very strong members.

Spirit run of the first 3 gens of UJSSM. It's only meant to get to 35C here today :handgestures-thumbdown: :handgestures-thumbdown: :angry-banghead: :angry-banghead: :scared-eek: :scared-eek: :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling:
Oh well, better than the 37C we've got forecast for tomorrow.

Should be prime weather to get my first live dunder rum ferment happening.

Going to run some TPW’s next week, gonna have to get up at 4 a.m. or earlier to beat the heat in the shed, but that’s the type of sacrifice one makes for the love of a hobby.

Hi there guy /gals
Big day in the shed today, first stripping run with a 2nd gen Mc rum. Have always just done spirit tuns , trying to get stock up as im new to bubbler, anyhow happy run, and I sort of took cuts too , .
I set it up with a 4 "riser off the keg and then a tee with sight glass to check if a puke about to happen, then 4 plates and through the rc , no water into the pc on flat out into parrot.

Then started my first big wash apeox 130lt, ended up st 1075.
14kg raw and 14lt molasses, used 2.5 lt backset per 25l, using tank water to top up , checked ph , spit on 5 , loverly , as it's now 3 gen.
Better go check it's not all over the shed floor

Can I ask why you're stripping? Most people generally don't strip with a plated column

Hi Coffe , dont know why really, just wanted a faster run , and try out my new power control.
It'sonly been a short time I've had this still, previously t500 . Aĺl my other runs where 5hr include heat, 25lt wash then added 10 lt water and generally returned 1.2 lt at 90 % hearts, think i was also trying to get bit more flavour to come through.
At least i done some large cuts, so might bottle off a sample out of the middle and oak that down, but will run this again next rum chance .
I've still got a couple 160lt barrels to load up ,next one's a FFV , and then some sort of wash for wiskey.

When I make rum washes in my 200L fermenter the total volume is around 160L, I can only put a bit over 40 in my boiler at a time so I would do 3 stripping runs then the low wines would go in with whatever was left over for one spirit run. 3 strip and 1 spirit was way quicker than 4 spirit runs.

How quick is your strip run? Are you taking into account heat up time? I don't see how the maths work personally. I did a 200ltr by stripping once but didn't think it was a quicker way at all. Never did it again. By the time you load the boiler, heat it up, run it then clean it out... I would rather sit there for an extra hour each run and have a finished product straight away, no low wine storage.

Each to his own I guess :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Well I'm doing 4 runs in total to get the lot of it done, whichever way I do it. I know a stripping run is faster than a spirit run, by how much I couldn't tell you, but there's also only one time splitting into cut jars and sorting out the cuts, which I reckon saves a bit of time as well.

I only ever strip neutrals... so far!

Had never planned on stripping brown spirits, but then I haven’t gone bigger (>60L) ferments as yet... but, to me right now, stripping large volume to a single boiler charge does make sense...

***Disclaimer*** haven’t found “my way” of running brown spirits as yet.

NB: there are plenty of post by Allan where he strips and then combines the stripping runs with the final FV fluids to do the spirit run.

I can strip 70 L in under 4 hours. So 12 hours stripping 200L and then 8 to 10 for a spirit run. Feels quicker and easier than 3 plate runs. Maybe I'm wrong.

When I had my 50L boiler I used to strip one wash then add that back to the next spirit run. My thoughts are i got a higher abv boiler charge with only dilututing the flavour by 20% or so( because the 40L of wash (flavour) was mixed with 10L of strip)
Still tasted good to me.
I’ve even stripped 3/4 of my 200L fermentor before and done a spirit run with those strips and the remaining wash (under 40%abv) but that makes for a nearly 12 hr run, very painful
