I much prefer CFW.
My experience with UJ was slightly floral for early generations then lightly fruity. With Stigs variant to CFW rye meal is added and then i chuck in some oats. I age 1/2 on AO and the other half on toasted maple wood. It tastes similiar to Jameson to me. It is my go to whiskey.

Today's wash is a 50ltr Kale wash... i'm waiting on my 3rd gen of CFW to finish and 2nd batch of single malt so I can strip bpts and FINALLY do some spirit runs through my practically brand new FSD MAC 4" SSG... so far all it's done is 2 stripping runs of CFW and one strip of single malt :crying-blue:

Why not a single run through the bubbler for the whiskey?

With the Mac 4 you shouldn’t really be doing strip run then spirit run for “brown” spirits , you should just be doing a single run.

DOH :angry-banghead: newbie (to plated still) failure... I only had individual 25lt wash to start with so figured i'd strip until I had enough for big spirit run. Now that i've got my hands on 5 55 ltr ones it's full steam ahead... hmmm need a bigger shed!

Finally got into the shed to do some runs. A mate gave me about 40kg of lemons so I need some neutral for lemoncello.

Not sure I remember how to do it it's been that long :laughing-rolling: . Let me know if I got it wrong...

Your boiler looks too full and your downcommers look like black plastic :teasing-neener:

Peated Single Malt using 20Kg peated & 5kg Marris Otter...

My first attempt at doing an all grain at home from start to finish... i've made 2 x 25ltr before at a home brew shop that let me use their grain boiler... and if truth be told their assistant did it as I was too busy drinking their 'club' beer :laughing-rolling:

Used a 55ltr drum and an esky (mostly to see if one was better than the other... truth be told the esky probably held the heat a little better but on a hot day it wasn't that big a difference) split the malt into 2 equal amounts soaked for 2hrs, strained and soaked for another 2hrs then sparged.

Ended up with 84lts @ SG 1.087... If the finished product is as good as it tastes now then it'll be my best drop to date ;-)

I finally get to put some of those domino's to use Stig :handgestures-thumbupleft:  :happy-partydance:

I've been mashing my grains for 90 mins at 66C using my HERMS system. closest I've got is 1075. Wondering if its worth another 30 mins to pick up a few more points

:-B so how do you find out the efficiency of a particular grain? I only used the Marris Otter as the guy suggested it for it's relatively high sugar rate... at this stage (3rd AG wash) i'm just experimenting :auto-ambulance:

Just did my cleaning run today... and used a TPW as the base.

Learned heaps just playing around with a few variables.

Still is finally clean and ready to go... so soon the real fun begins!
